Carraway Mineral Company was involved in a dispute with an international mining company (250 times larger) over contractual and environmental issues. WPI was able to develop an effective “Pressure Point” strategy that quickly forced the opposition to capitulate. Kay Winn, the Executive Vice President summarized the negotiations below.
“In what would be best described as a David and Goliath situation, my team had only right on its side, and that was simply not enough. My decision to retain the services of Michael Phillips of WPI, shifted the balance rapidly in our favor, ending a stalemate that was meant by my adversary to outlive me.
Dollar for dollar, the advice and insight Michael shared with me taught me not only the tactics needed to resolve an intractable, immediate problem; but, also principles and practices that have served me well ever since. I cannot think of any other business relationship that has given me greater value for my money.
Beyond the concerns of the bottom line, I always felt that the counsel received from WPI was in accordance with my ethical position. Michael works hard to bring everyone to agreement, without sacrificing the core values of his clients.
At the end of the day, it felt good to win. Knowing that we played a fair game at every turn of the process was important to me.”
